Tetrahydrofuran (THF) is a colorless, water-miscible, low-viscosity organic liquid at room temperature and pressure. The chemical formula of this cyclic ether can be written as (CH2)4O. Because of its long liquid range, it is a commonly used medium-polar aprotic solvent. Its main use is as a precursor for high molecular polymers. Although the smell and chemical properties of THF are very similar to those of ether, its anesthetic effect is very poor.
Function and use:
1. Used as a solvent and raw material for organic synthesis.
2. Used as a chromatographic analysis reagent, organic solvent and nylon 66 intermediate. Tetrahydrofuran, also known as cyclopentacyclopentane, oxacyclopentane, and tetramethylene oxide, is an intermediate for the synthetic pesticide phenylbutatin. In addition, it can be directly used to make synthetic fibers, synthetic resins, and synthetic rubber.
It is also a solvent for many polymer materials, precision magnetic tapes and electroplating industries. It is also used to make adiponitrile, adipic acid, hexamethylenediamine, succinic acid, butanediol, γ-butyrolactone, etc. In the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used to produce carbetaquinone, progesterone, rifamycin and as a pharmaceutical solvent.
3. Tetrahydrofuran is an important organic synthetic raw material and a solvent with excellent performance. It is particularly suitable for dissolving PVC, polyvinylidene chloride and butylaniline. It is widely used as a solvent for surface coatings, anti-corrosion coatings, printing inks, magnetic tapes and film coatings, and as a reaction solvent. When used in electroplating aluminum liquid, the thickness of the aluminum layer can be arbitrarily controlled and bright.
